Romania has a fascinating and diverse cultural heritage influenced by Roman, Ottoman, and Hungarian civilizations, reflected in its traditions, music, and cuisine.  In recent years it has undergone significant social and economic changes since the fall of communism in 1989, steadily developing as a member of the European Union.
