Overview
Where better to take your students than the place where the observations of the great English geologist, Charles Lyell, led to the basis to modern geology?
The Bay of Naples provides a great opportunity to study key themes at GCSE and A-level, including Tectonic Processes, Tourism, Hazard Management, Coasts and Industry.
This exciting programme includes visits to Pompeii, the Phlegraean Fields, Capri and the Amalfi Coast - not to mention Mount Vesuvius! A mild climate makes this the ideal area to visit at any time of year.
Our Suggested Itinerary
-
Day 1
Flight to Naples.
Visit the Campi Flegrei, which encompass a cauldron-like region of twenty-four volcanoes and craters, many still bubbling with seismic activity.
Private coach transfer to your accommodation in Sorrento Peninsula.
-
Day 2
Visit Mount Vesuvius where as well as viewing the crater and the variety of volcanic rocks and volcanic forms such as sulphur-emitting fumaroles, solidified lava, pumice and tuffs, you can take a moment to pause and soak up the magnificent views across to the Bay of Naples and Sorrento Bay, the islands of Ischia and Capri.
In the afternoon, explore Pompeii OR Herculaneum with an expert guide to witness the destructive impact of the volcanic eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD.
-
Day 3
Spend the day visiting with a guide the Amalfi Coast - rated as one of the most beautiful lengths of coastline in the whole of Europe. Various stops such as Positano, Ravello and Amalfi can be made to view the dramatic and precipitous coastal scenery and limestone rocks that dominate the area.
OR
Take the ferry to Isle of Capri and discover the island's stunning rocky coastline, the famous Arco Naturale and Faraglioni (stacks) landforms. You will also tour the historic towns of Capri and Anacapri!
-
Day 4
Return flight home.
