Iceland: Meet the Vikings!
from £850pp
Based on 3 days
Suitable for Secondary Schools
Overview
Iceland is the ideal destination to immerse yourselves in all things Viking! They were the first to ever set foot on the island and today’s Icelanders are their descendants. They left their mark on everything here, from the landscape, to the language, to the food.
Our History tour is designed to bring this chapter of Iceland’s story to life, through interactive and face-to-face encounters. Pupils can get up close to a replica longship, hear ancient sagas from a storyteller, and step into the past at a Viking restaurant.
According to local legend, some schools have even been ambushed by real Viking raiders and taken on exciting adventures!
Our Suggested Itinerary
-
Day 1
Morning flight from the UK to Reykjavik (Keflavik Airport).
Board your coach to Reykjavik and get settled into your accommodation.
Spend some free time exploring Reykjavik and don’t miss Hallgrímskirkja Church, one of the city’s most famous landmarks.
Take a guided tour of the Settlement Exhibition, a high-tech archaeological museum built on top of a Viking longhouse.
Optional evening activity: Try some traditional Icelandic food at a local restaurant!
-
Day 2
This morning, explore Reykjavik with a friendly local Viking! They'll bring history to life along with folk tales and legends. They’ll even teach you some Icelandic phrases, so you can not only walk with a Viking, but talk like one too!
After lunch, head to the excellent Vikingaheimar (Viking World) for a guided tour. The main attraction is the magnificent Icelander, a replica longship!
Optional extra activity: Let off some steam (quite literally) swimming in the thermal Blue Lagoon!
Enjoy an evening meal at a Viking Restaurant with live entertainment. Watch out, though - there are rumours that schools have been snatched from their coaches by Viking warriors!
-
Day 3
On your final morning, witness Viking history at the Saga Museum. After an audio tour, there's an opportunity to dress up in Viking clothing, armour and weapons!
After lunch, climb up to the viewing deck of Perlan, an inconic domed building, for spectacular views over Reykjavik!
Board your coach and catch your flight back to the UK.
Let us know if you’d like to add an extra day, to head out into Iceland’s countryside and explore its natural wonders. Take a look at our ‘Iceland: Vikings and Volcanoes!’ itinerary for more inspiration.
