Overview

Croatia is a wonderfully compact country with a rich variety of physical geography to study.

Still relatively untouched by mass tourism, Croatia’s outstanding geographical features include giant rock stack formations, mountains and valley terrains and beautiful National Parks including the jaw-dropping Plitvice Lakes – a geographical wonder!

Our programmes include visits to areas of outstanding natural beauty and rich bio-diversity.  Students are also introduced to the history, traditions and lifestyles that have shaped each of these landscapes.

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Flight to Croatia

Guided Tour of Ucka Nature Park.  Ucka Nature Park contains lush vegetation and a number of rare and protected animals.  Dating from the tertiary period, the canyon of Vela Draga remains one of the most attractive and intriguing geomorphological sites in the park.

Rafting on Kupa River.  Head into the wild Gorski Kotar region for an exciting day of rafting along the Kupa river!

  2. Day 2

Visit Predjama Castle.  A stunning example of the interaction of humans with the natural landscape, the magnificent Predjama Castle has been perched half-way up a vertical 123-metre high cliff for more than 700 years.

Guided Tour of Postojna Cave.  Cross the border into Slovenia for a tour of the largest example of Karst topography in Europe!  This unforgettable tour begins with a ride on an underground train past fantastic limestone sculptures, followed by a walking tour deep inside the mountain.

Visit Vivarium Proteus.  The Postojna Cave is home to some 150 animal species! At the underground vivarium, you will discover how these fascinating creatures have evolved for subterranean life.

  3. Day 3

Day trip to Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Take a guided tour around this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Croatia’s answer to the Lake District, the park contains a series of beautiful lakes linked together by waterfalls, which have been formed by the deposition of travertine barriers, creating natural dams.

  4. Day 4

Spend the morning in Opatija, a popular tourist resort on the Istrian peninsula at Kvarner Bay.

    Return flight home.

Testimonials about this trip:

The Hotel was awesome.  Slightly dated but perfect for a school group.  The staff were really friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.  We were all roomed closed together so we had section of the hotel which made it much easier as a group leader.  The food was buffet style which meant there was ample choice for the fussy eaters in the group!  The food was great and a balanced offering of healthy choices.

I really enjoyed organising the visit with Laura and the kids absolutely loved the visit. The rafting day was brilliant and would be a massive recommendation for other schools to do!
