Overview

A scene for Jewish migration in the 1930s, London offers some excellent visits allowing students to study the Holocaust in depth through interactive workshops, exhibitions and moving eyewitness accounts.

There’s a wealth of cultural attractions to balance out these deeply poignant visits and end your tour on a lighter note.

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

Depart school and travel to London.

Visit the Imperial War Museum's Holocaust exhibition - a rich learning resource for students.

Optional treat: West End show, to lighten the mood at the end of the day! Let us know if you have a show in mind, or if you'd like us to suggest the best option for your group. Previous suggestions include White Rose, the story of university students standing up against Hitler's regime, and Les Misérables, telling the story of resilience and resistance.

  2. Day 2

Visit the Jewish Museum for tailor-made educational programmes and a unique opportunity to find out about Leon Greenman's life. Leon was British, but living in the Netherlands and unable to prove his family's British identity. This led him to being deported to Westerbork then to Auschwitz-Birkenau. After surviving 18 months in these camps, and his wife and son being murdered upon arrival, Leon decided to dedicate the rest of his life to telling his story.

Take part in the Holocaust workshop at the National Archives. Original documents from the archives help students to consider the benefits and limitations of historical documents.

    Journey back to school.
