Overview

With over 3,000 years of history, culture and architecture, Rome is one of the best locations for a Classics tour. A visit to the Eternal City evokes images of spectacular triumphs, gladiatorial combat and passionate senatorial debate. You will be able to explore the remains of palaces, public arenas and triumphal monuments in the nexus of the mighty Roman Empire.

  • study the remains of Roman civilisation to see what can be reconstructed and understood from these buildings
  • see the city that created some of the great poets and writers of Roman literature and discover what inspired them
  • view archaeological sites and sculptures specified in the OCR/AQA syllabuses

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Flight to Rome

    Settle in at your accommodation before heading into the city! 

    Visit Trevi Fountain, where an estimated €3000 are thrown into the water every day! 

    Then, head to the Spanish steps, an iconic area of Rome built in the 18th century. 

  2. Day 2

    All day tour of Rome on foot: explore the Roman Forum, Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill; Arco'di Costantino, Capitoline Hill and Museum and Trajan's Column.

    Today, you will get a taste of life in Ancient Rome and walk in the footsteps of emperors, gladiators, and inventors! 

  3. Day 3

    Day in the Vatican: Guided tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, St Peter's Basilica and St Peter's square.

    Despite being one of the smallest countries in the world, the Vatican has plenty to offer! Explore this wonderful corner of the world before heading to a pizza making workshop, and stopping into a gelato factory!  

  4. Day 4

    Visit the Catacombs of Saint Callixtus, the greatest and most important catacombs in Rome. The ancient Christian catacombs of Rome date back to the second century, forming an underground labyrinth over 12 miles long! There's definitely plenty to explore!
