A two-centre tour of New York and Washington DC is the perfect way to experience some of the most important aspects of US History and Politics, alongside some of the main sights that the East Coast has to offer.

Washington DC, the seat of power of arguably the most powerful country in the world, is an inspirational destination for budding politicians, and including a visit to the bright lights and soaring buildings of the Big Apple makes for an unforgettable school trip.

A stopover in Philadelphia to see the Liberty Bell is highly recommended!

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Morning flight to New York and transfer to accommodation.

    Take in the spectacular New York skyline with a night-time trip up the Empire State Building.

  2. Day 2

    Gain an insight into the origins of modern New York with a visit to the Statue of Liberty and the Ellis Island Immigration Museum.

    Visit the 9/11 Memorial, the site of the attack that caused the greatest paradigm shift of this century, in both American and global politics.

    Visit New York's iconic Times Square.  Stay until dark to enjoy the full impact of its famous neon billboards.

    There's also an option to add a Broadway show (ask us for our personal recommendations)!

  3. Day 3

    Get immersed in New York's turbulent history with a powerful Civil Rights multimedia walking tour of Harlem.

    Guided tour of the United Nations headquarters.

    Enjoy some free time shopping on the famous 5th Avenue!

  4. Day 4

    Transfer by coach to Washington DC.

    Half-day stop in Philadelphia (optional):

    Visit the Independence National Historical Park and see the Liberty Bell, the iconic symbol of American independence.

    Arrive in Washington DC and settle into your accommodation.

    After a photo opportunity outside the White House, enjoy some free time in Downtown Washington this evening.

  5. Day 5

    Learn about the American legislature with a tour of the Capitol building and a visit to Exhibition Hall, which tells the story of the US Congress.

    Explore the judicial branch of government with a guided tour of the US Supreme Court, with the possibility of attending a lecture about the US judiciary.

    Enjoy a guided stroll through the National Mall to visit the Roosevelt Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial.

    Overnight flight back to the UK. 

  6. Day 6

    Arrive back home.

There is a good choice of accommodation in Washington and New York suitable for school groups, we always quote on a no bed-sharing basis.  In New York our schools tend to stay at the Hotel Wolcott, and in Washington we tend to use either Hostelling International Washington DC or the Capitol Skyline Hotel.  Let us know your preference when you submit your request, and we'll help you to find the best option for your group.
